The H post is the heavier of our two crash barrier post profiles — 19.3kg at 1.2m against the lighter Z post — and it is the one to specify where the barrier is protecting something that matters: racking, plant, a structural column, a gas or electrical installation, or a building line that vehicles work close to.

Dig in or bolt down?

Dig in is the stronger fixing: the post is concreted in, so the ground takes the impact rather than a handful of anchors. Bolt down suits an existing slab you would rather not break out and is quicker to install, but the fixing is only as good as the concrete under it — check slab depth and condition before choosing it. On open ground, dig in every time.

What else you will need

Posts are a component, not a kit. A complete run also takes crash barrier beams (3504mm overall, 3200mm effective when overlapped), corners where the run turns, a fish tail end or pedestrian end to close it off, plus post bolts and lap bolts. See the full crash barrier range.

Common questions

How many posts do I need? One per beam joint plus one to finish, so a run needs one more post than beams. Each beam covers 3.2m effective, so a 32m run is 10 beams and 11 posts.

Which height do I need? The dig in figures are overall length, not height above ground — allow for the depth going into the concrete. If you are unsure how much barrier height the site needs, ring us before ordering.

H post or Z post? H is the heavier section for protecting structure, racking and plant. The Z post is the lighter option for car park and general yard duty.
