Product details

Powder coated end post for railway sleeper walls, in PFC channel 125 x 65mm. Closes off a run of sleepers neatly, with no fixings and nothing on the open faces.

An end post closes off a run of sleepers. The channel takes the timber from one side only, so the last sleeper in a wall is held and squared without anything showing on the open face.

Key points

  • PFC channel 125mm x 65mm at 11.9kg per metre — web 5.2mm, flange 6.8mm.
  • Powder coated — the tidiest finish of the three, and the one to pick when the posts are part of the look of the garden rather than just holding it up.
  • Ten lengths — 600mm, 900mm, 1m, 1.2m, 1.5m, 1.6m, 1.8m, 2m, 2.4m and 3m, so the post suits anything from a single course border to a wall several sleepers high.
  • No fixings required — nothing to bolt, screw or drill.
  • For 100mm wide sleepers only. Our railway sleepers are 195mm x 95mm, so they suit.

How it goes in

No fixings needed. Set the post, then drop the sleepers into the channel from above. The steel is sized to leave the timber a small amount of room, so the sleeper can expand in the wet and shrink back in a dry summer without splitting or pushing the post over.

Why this finish

Powder coating is the finish for a garden where the steel is meant to be seen. It goes on over the steel and stays even and matt rather than weathering to a patina, so a run of posts still looks deliberate three summers later.

Where it is used

The ends of raised beds, planters, borders and retaining walls, and anywhere a sleeper run finishes in the open rather than into a corner or a wall.

Choosing lengths and quantities

The post has to go into the ground as well as stand above it, so order longer than the finished height of the wall — how much longer depends on your ground and the height you are retaining. Along a run you want an intermediate post between each pair of sleepers, an end post where the run stops and a corner post at each change of direction, all in the same powder coated finish.

What else you might need

Railway sleepers themselves in tanalised green or brown, sleeper pins to anchor the bottom course, and post mix for setting the posts. See the full sleepers and posts range.
