Post mix is a dry, pre-blended concrete supplied in bags, poured straight into the post hole and wetted in place. No mixing, no barrow, no gauging — which is why a two-man team can stand and concrete a whole run of posts in a single visit.
How it is used
- Dig the hole and stand the post, plumb and braced.
- Pour the dry mix in around the post, roughly to within a couple of inches of the top.
- Add water as directed on the bag and let it soak through.
- Leave it alone. It goes off in minutes, but it has not reached strength for considerably longer.
Where it is right, and where it is not
Post mix is ideal for fence and gate posts: fast, consistent, and strong enough for the loads a fence line puts into the ground. It is not the answer for a foundation carrying real structural load, a retaining wall taking the weight of a bank, or anywhere a designed mix has been specified — there, use proper concrete.

- How long does post mix take to set?
It goes firm in minutes, but full strength takes considerably longer — check the bag. Don't hang a gate or strain a fence against a post the same hour you concrete it.
- Can I use post mix for a retaining wall?
No. Post mix is for fence and gate posts. A wall retaining ground is a structural job and wants a proper concrete mix.
