A manual swing arm barrier is the straightforward way to close a road, yard or car park entrance where there is no gatehouse and traffic volumes are low. The arm swings from the hanging post, drops into the locking post and padlocks shut; the open post holds it clear of the road when the entrance is in use.

Supplied as a complete barrier

• 1 hanging post — carries the arm and takes the swing.
• 1 locking post — receives the arm in the closed position.
• 1 open post — parks and secures the arm when the entrance is open.
• 1 padlock included, so it is secure from day one.

• 1m above ground as standard, the usual working height for vehicle control.
• Hollow box section steel — a rigid arm that holds its line across a long span rather than sagging.

Where they are used

Unmanned site entrances, car park and compound access, farm and estate tracks, service yards, delivery routes and overflow parking — anywhere access needs controlling but a powered barrier would be more than the job warrants.

Choosing a length

Order on the clear opening the arm has to cross, and remember the hanging and locking posts sit outside that span. Weights run from 95kg at 3m to 195kg at 8m, so the longer arms are a two person or machine lift and want a solid fixing under the hanging post.

Can it be locked in the open position? Yes, that is what the open post is for — the arm secures clear of the roadway rather than being left to swing.
