The lug is the other half of a traditional gate hanging. It welds to the gate frame and drops onto the pin of an eye bolt fixed through the post, so the gate lifts off if it ever needs taking away.

Key points

• Four sizes — 16mm, 19mm, 25mm and 32mm, to match the eye bolt you are hanging on.
• Supplied in raw steel, not galvanised, because it is going to be welded. Paint or coat it after fitting or it will rust at the weld.
• Buy in pairs — one at the top of the leaf, one at the bottom.

Sizing

The size is the pin it fits, so a 25mm lug goes with a 25mm eye bolt. Heavier gates want the larger sizes; a light pedestrian leaf is fine on 16mm.
