Flat razor wire
Razor wire that sits in the plane of the fence rather than coiling out from it. Same blades, no overhang — the format for boundaries with a footpath alongside.

Flat razor wire is a comparatively recent arrival in the UK and it exists to solve one problem: traditional concertina razor wire bulges outward from the fence line, and where there is a pavement on the other side, that overhang is hanging over people.
The flat profile keeps the barrier within the plane of the fence. The blade profile is unchanged, so the deterrent is much the same, but nothing projects over the approach. It is supplied compressed in 500mm and 700mm widths and opens to roughly 10m.
It is also cheaper and quicker to fit. Because nothing overhangs, there is no need for 90-degree brackets on top of the run — a flat bracket to fix to is enough, with a line wire fed through the tape and tightened at each fixing point.

It is safer for people walking alongside the fence, because it does not overhang the boundary line. It is not safer to handle or to climb — the blades are identical, and the same duty of care to trespassers applies.
